The head table is wherever the newlyweds sit during the wedding reception.

This table usually faces the other guest tables, and for some weddings the table is somewhat elevated.

Traditionally, the couple, honor attendants, bridesmaids, and groomsmen sit at the head table.  When the couple opts to sit at the table without their attendants – i.e. alone –  it's referred to as a sweetheart table.
