The term off-site refers to something that happens or is available away from a specific location.

A wedding reception site that has few or none of the services or supplies needed to host an event is categorized as an off-site or off-premise location.  With an off-site location,  everything from food to silverware will need to be contracted from sources away from the venue, i.e. off-site.

An off-site caterer specializes in providing food for events that happen at off-site venues.

Examples of an off-site venue include:

  • A historical building – e.g. museum (where catered events are not its primary function)
  • A tented event
