I have been doing plenty of research, collecting information from the Internet, so I’m still in the conceptual phase of opening a wedding planning business. The problem is I don’t want to be “just another wedding planner”. I want to stand out from the rest! Since I am a novice, I was thinking about volunteering at a couple local venues as an event manager & learn the nuts and bolts about how an event is set-up from start to finish. It would also put me in direct contact with local vendors & also I could become an expert on these two venues. Whatcha think?
Noell,
Happy to hear that you don’t want to be “just another wedding planner.” Being a specialty wedding planner, in my opinion, is a good move.
I always suggest researching and meeting local wedding vendors, since you’ll need to start building a good list anyway. In addition to volunteering your time to venues, offer to spend a few hours working events with some of the vendors you meet. This way they get hands-on help during the events that they’re ‘working’, and you get much-needed hands-on experience while learning more about what vendors actually do. Not only will this improve your vendor relationships, but it also keeps your name ‘top of mind’, which means the next time they come across a client in need of wedding planner, they’re much more likely to remember and, hopefully, recommend you.
Hope this helps.
Nice article…thank you…
